011: Don’t Be An Asshole

There’s a lot going wrong with the world, and most of it is because people refuse to see themselves as one of 8 billion+ human siblings and want to be the main character of Earth. And sure, we’re all the main character in our own lives. That’s not a good or a bad thing, it’s just how it works; you’re driving your own vehicle, so of course that’s the view of the road you’re going to get. You’re just not the main character of Earth.

So don’t be an asshole.

I have a lot of words on this right now and I keep typing them up and deleting them, so I’m just going to stick with the above. Don’t demand space or energy or time or relationship from strangers. I don’t care if you think they’re the most attractive being to ever be, or if they represent something truly beautiful and personal and real to you. You haven’t formed a real relationship with them and you are not entitled to anything from them. Put another way, they are a person, not an NPC in YourLife RPG.

Too many folks are asshole customers: entitled, greedy, whiny, immature, overreactive, and selfish, selfish, selfish. I haven’t worked in customer service for years and I still despise that behavior. It’s anti-social in the sense of being detrimental to community and a drain on society. And, generally speaking, I believe that most people are better than that sort of behavior!

So live your life “better than that,” live it being kind and flexible and generous. If something doesn’t meet your expectations, feel free to be disappointed! We support feelings here on the Jamieblog. What we don’t support is you throwing a fit that would make a three-year-old look mature (regardless whether or not that fit is highly decibellic in nature). We don’t support entitlement to another human being’s whole person, no matter your reasoning.

And we definitely don’t support assholes.
